Judge Barker…
- Currently serving on the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas – General Division. She presides over all criminal cases defined by statute as felonies, as well as certain other criminal offenses and civil matters with no monetary limit.
- Served as Mayor’s Court Magistrate and the Juvenile Diversion Magistrate for the City of Brecksville from May, 2000 through September, 2011. She developed a reputation for treating those that came before her with dignity and respect – listening for as long as it took to ensure that the defendant was fully heard. Judge Barker has witnessed first-hand the effects that the criminal justice system has on an individual’s life and livelihood.
- Has served as an arbitrator and arbitration chairman for the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas and was selected to serve as the arbitration chairman in a private complex litigation matter.
- Has developed and implemented cost-effective litigation strategies and has provided oversight of litigation processes.
- Worked as an attorney with the firm of Berkman, Gordon, Murray & Palda, and with the Law Offices of Eugene G. Gillis, as a sole practitioner, Of Counsel with Davis & Young, as Claims Attorney/Counsel for northeast Ohio’s own Progressive Insurance Company, and Farmers Insurance Exchange, and as claims litigation manager for Bristol West Insurance Group.
- Represented individuals, small businesses and corporations, as plaintiffs and/or defendants in municipal, state and federal trial and appellate courts throughout Ohio. She has briefed and/or argued appeals before eight out of the twelve Ohio appellate district courts, as well as before the Ohio Supreme Court.
- No matter the client or the client’s financial resources or lack thereof, she was a strong and hard-working advocate for all of her clients.
- While attending The Ohio State University College of Law, clerked for Criminal Law Adjunct Professor Lawrence Herman, Evidence Professor Nancy Erickson, Tax Professor Allan J. Samansky, and clerked for the St. Petersburg, Florida firm of Greene, Mann, Rowe, Stanton, Mastry & Burton.
- As a student at James Ford Rhodes High School, Kenyon College and/or The Ohio State University College of Law, she was a front-line employee at Red Barn, Uncle Bill’s, McDonald’s, Union Commerce Bank and Huntington National Bank.
- Has a strong work ethic and an appreciation for those that provide a work product and service as well as those that own a business and manage the process.
- Was admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, September 2, 2002.
- Is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association
- Is a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association and its Women In Law Section.
- Is a member of the West Shore Bar Association.
